There is currently no age limit on plastic surgery allowing children to decide whether they want to modify their body. I find it bizarre that you have to be 18 to decide you want a tattoo but a teenager can decide they want a nose job or breast implants. Although you have to provide a reasonable reason to be eligible for plastic surgery on the NHS private jobs are also legal. I do understand that there are children with serious disfigurements or burns which are improved by plastic surgery but there are also cases of six year olds having their ears pinned back and 11 year olds having nose jobs. Personally I don’t think that at that age child should feel the need to have plastic surgery or be told they need it.
Having big ears or a wonky nose can effect self esteem I am not debating that but throughout life the children are going to experience a number of other things about themselves they may feel unhappy with. I think that children should be encouraged to feel happy with themselves and realise that no one is perfect. Once you fix on thing on a persons body they will always find something else to feel unhappy about I don’t think that children should feel the need to look how society wants them to look, they should enjoy their childhood and not have to worry about their image.
